The aim of our Ida was to create a work consciously inspired by an existing work, practice or phenomenon in order to make the audience experience a déjà-vu through our work.
Through objects created during this module, I imagined three ways of interpreting a striptease. The result of my Ida is a performance in three parts; Warm Up (9 min), Reverse (7 min) & Hostage (9 min), which I presented on June 4, 2021 in front of a small audience. I documented my work in three videos, using clips filmed by the audience. In Warm Up, I wear an elastic headband that allows me to hang a small speaker in my wig. Dancing with this device, with repeating movements and using my wig as a lasso – I want to feel sexy and to show it. Reverse is a striptease where I try to dress without hands. It's a fight with myself that takes a lot of effort and is not meant to be sexy. In Hostage, I take my audience hostage. They don't have a say anymore, they become mine as I slowly get undress.
I wanted to try my hand at stripping in a way that was my own. I was able to organize this striptease and decided to do things I like to do, which is not the case with most stripclubs, whose structure is usually designed by men, for men.
